MUSIC

Live recording of entirely improvised piano music from a concert given at the Goetze Palace on a June midsummer’s eve. The piano was a 1930’s Steinway Model ‘A’ - a favorite of mine, to be sure.  Given an opportune moment, I’m still likely to launch into my brand of stride piano, just for sheer cruising pleasure.

Lee Sloan, piano

A solo piano recording of improvisations and original compositions that go well beyond stylistic boundaries. What is the best of jazz anyway, if not music without constraints; that dosen’t fit neatly into categories.

When total spontaneity works, it’s like magic, and this live concert recording of our free jazz quartet performance at the Krakow Autumn Jazz Festival, 2008 has it: vitality, drive and some tugging grooves.

Fats & Friends

Released 2004

The masters of the style known as stride piano, Fats Waller, Art Tatum, James P. Johnson and Willie ‘The Lion’ Smith, were not only great pianists, they were fine musicians and larger-than-life personalities. This session documents fourteen of their innovative piano compositions, many of which have never previously been recorded.
